This week’s happenings in the Park Street Business District: View Calendar
Alameda Theatre & Cineplex — Take the Magic With You!
School is almost out for the summer and there’s good reason to head to the local movie theater in the Park Street Business District. Alameda Theatre & Cineplex has created two different movie series for the months of June, July, and August.
Maybe you would like to take the kids to a morning Family Movie Series that features some of the most entertaining children’s favorites released within the past few years. Or maybe you would like to indulge in the late-night openings of this summer’s most anticipated blockbuster films by attending the Midnight Movie Series.
On Friday and Saturday nights, Dave May hosts “Alameda’s Got Talent.” The mini-contest precedes the evening movie in the Historic Theatre and showcases some of Alameda’s hidden talent. Interested in performing? The Theatre takes sign ups at the Box Office.
With 8 different screens at Alameda Theatre & Cineplex, there’s plenty of movies to choose from each day. For a list of current movies and showtimes, go to their website at www.alamedatheatres.com/schedule.html.
Family Summer Movie Series
The Alameda Theatre & Cineplex begins a Family Movie Series this summer for kids and families as a fundraiser for local schools. Tickets are only $5 for a series of 9 family movie tickets — and 100% of the series ticket sales are donated to the school sponsors! But tickets can also be purchased at the theater’s box office for $2 each on the day of show.
The Theatre will be presenting one kid movie favorite per week at 10:00am on Tuesdays in the historic auditorium from June 12 through August 7.

6/19 The Smurfs
6/26 The Zookeeper
7/3 Puss in Boots
7/10 Tin Tin
7/17 Diary Of A Wimpy Kid 2
7/24 Dolphin Tale

This is summer fun for kids that also helps to support local schools! Tickets can be purchased from participating ticket-selling sponsors: Alameda Education Foundation, Boys & Girls Club of Alameda, Girls Inc. of the Island City, Lum Elementary, NEA Community Learning Center, St. Philip Neri Elementary, and St. Joseph Elementary School.
For your convenience, you can purchase Family Movie Series tickets at the following Park Street District businesses (accepting cash or checks payable to AEF): Bank of Alameda (1416 Park Street), Cafe Q (2302 Encinal Avenue), Daisy’s (1347 Park Street).
If you go, plan to arrive 20 minutes before showtime to find seats and take advantage of the theater’s Kid’s Snack Pack Special: Child Popcorn, Child Drink, and Child Candy for only $3.50.
By the way, look for “Mommy and Me Mondays” to start this fall!
Midnight Movie Mania!

For those who like to save money (and who doesn’t?),… stop by the box office and purchase a block of 6 midnight tickets in advance, making your choice of 6 films just $7.75 each!
