12 Businesses, 3+ Classrooms & You – Tuesday, October 22
The merchants in the Park Street Business District are proud to assist in the educational enrichment of Alameda students. On Tuesday, October 22, businesses are joining together to donate a portion of their sales income to the Alameda Education Foundation’s (AEF) Adopt A Classroom program. Our goal is to collectively raise $1,500 – enough funding for 3 classrooms.
The Alameda Education Foundation (AEF) will direct 100% of each $500 Adopt A Classroom donation to teachers or program leaders who can use the funds to purchase critical resources and materials, update technology, or fund educational learning experiences. Recent examples include funding a field trip to the Chabot Space & Science Center, building a classroom library, and updating student technology tools.
“Teachers have told us how they like being able to choose what the money is used for based on student needs. We especially appreciate ‘open’ or undirected donations that we can give to teachers most in need who may not have the same access to resources as teachers at more affluent schools. You can help us support these teachers by…shopping!” said AEF President Bill Sonneman.
Our businesses are pleased that AEF will be directing the Adopt A Classroom funds raised on October 22 to teachers not yet adopted and as determined by need.
You can help support these teachers and their students while getting a jump on your holiday gift-buying. Shop at any of the participating businesses on Tuesday, October 22 during the listed hours and each will donate 5-20% of your purchases during that time to benefit the Alameda classrooms that are most in need.

Park Jewelers (1401 1/2 Park Street), 4:00 – 6:00pm

Scarecrows on Park Street
October is a terrific time to visit the shops and restaurants in the Park Street Business District. Many of the businesses are “tricked” out for Halloween. You’ll find artistic scarecrows, spooky skeletons, and other amusing décor in the windows, inside the doorways, and on the roofs. So the next time you are on Park Street be sure to look for the creative Halloween displays.
