Mother’s Day, Artful Celebrations, and the Park Street Spring Festival — it’s all happening in Alameda this weekend.
2nd Friday Art Walk in Alameda and the Park Street Spring Festival
Mother’s Day is a time to celebrate life and art is a celebration of life. Why not start your Mother’s Day weekend this Friday by accompanying Mom on visits to some of the art galleries that are part of the 2nd Friday Art Walk.
Start your Art Walk at any of the participating art venues featuring performance art, live music, DJ’s, and film screenings; alongside a rotating schedule of amazing visual art. Grab a delicious snack to eat or drink along the way as you stroll from venue to venue (many offer complimentary wine and crackers). End the evening by treating Mom to dinner or a cocktail at one of the many tea/coffee houses, lounges, and restaurants in the Park Street area.
To help you out, we’ve picked out a number of interestingvenues that will be exhibiting on Friday night and during the Park Street Spring Festival:
Gary Francis Fine Art (1419 Park Street) You’re invited to the Opening Night Reception for Image Hungry on Friday, May 9, 6:00-9:00pm. “Images feed our hunger. Images tell us what to wear, what to eat, and who to adore. Images evoke and provoke emotions and thoughts automatically. AND, we project ourselves, our identities, our stories, and our values onto the images we see. This is the creative dialectic of the Image Hungry exhibition.” GFFA will also be open during the Park Street Spring Festival.
Redux Studios & Gallery (2315 Lincoln Ave) This month’s Open Studios will be graced with DJ Roy Robles playing Nuyorican Sounds & other musical delights, goodies to eat & refreshments to sip, Redux artists’ special creations, a sprinkling of guest artists, silent auction & socializing!! Redux will also be offering a collage art project for everyone to participate in if they wish to be creative! The Redux store is stocked with many cool and unique items — this could be a special place to find a gift for Mom.
Studio 23 (2309B Encinal Ave) Second Friday also means Open Studio Night at Studio 23. This is a working studio and is home to the Alameda Artists group. They will have the “usual” works on display as well as a few pieces from guest artist Cheryl Harawitz. The studio will also be open Saturday late afternoon during the Park Street Spring Festival.
