This week’s happenings in the Park Street Business District: View Calendar
This is not a PSBA event, but the 6th Annual Alameda Zombie Crawl will be filling Park Street and other nearby streets with hordes of the walking dead this Saturday, October 18. Dress up as a Zombie and join the horde! Crawl participating bars, mingle with fellow undead, and enjoy drink specials made by our local necromantic bartenders.
The event is open to everyone 21 and over. There is no itinerary, so zombies can feel free to roam wherever they like. For those who are not ready to join the undead, the event is still worth a trip to Downtown Alameda to view some of the most frightening and creative creatures on the island as the zombies shuffle along the sidewalks.
In the spirit of the Zombie Crawl, Tiger’s Blood Social Club, located at 2319 Santa Clara Ave, will be hosting a Zombie Crawl Pre-Party. They promise “Bands, Burlesque, Tattoos, and General Mayhem.” But it’s all in fun. Proceeds from the event will be donated to Alameda Education Foundation’s Adopt A Classroom program.
Starting at Noon, professional make-up and photo sessions will be available at the tattoo parlor (but it’s advised to call ahead and reserve a time). Then from 4:00pm to 9:00pm, the party will be in high gear with live bands including Misfits tribute band, Braineaters; Siouxsie & the Banshees tribute band, Voodoo Dolly; and local band The Up and Down. Emcee Shotzi BlackHeart “Queen of the Damned” will introduce the festivities which also include a burlesque show by some of the hottest zombies around.
This year organizers of the Alameda Zombie Crawl have arranged for a “shuffle” bus to circle the island between the hours of 8:00pm and1:00am. The stopping points in the Park Street District are Churchward Pub (1515 Park Street) and Lucky 13 (1301 Park Street). The donation for the shuttle is $7 for unlimited rides (a wristband will be issued during your first ride).

“Sunday Fund Day” – October 26
Save the Date! An industry-driven fundraiser to help re-establish Angela’s Restaurant and bring the community together is being planned for Sunday, October 26.
Saboor Zafari was close to opening the new Angela’s Restaurant earlier this month when it fell victim to a devastating arsonist fire.
“After hearing about the fire at Angela’s, we naturally wanted to help Saboor and his family! My partner and I went through a similar situation two years ago. I was astounded at the damage that a fire could do, and I know the road to recovery is a long one. Because of the uncertainties that lie ahead for Angela’s, this event is intended to help Saboor cover any immediate costs while the waiting game gets off to a start,” remarked event organizer Melanie Hartman of American Oak.
Numerous restaurants and bars located in Downtown Alameda will each be offering a special item for the day plus other activities, of which all proceeds will go to helping Saboor replace all that was lost in the fire.
Restaurants planning special activities for “Sunday Fund Day” include American Oak, Speisekammer, TASTE at McGee’s, C’era Una Volta, Pappo, Gold Coast Grill, East End, Linguini’s Pizza, Monkey King Pub & Grub, and Tucker’s Ice Cream. But more are being added so watch for information next week.
