Downtown Alameda’s Best Party Foods for the Super Bowl:
Sandwiches, Sausages, Cheeses, and Veggie Sticks
Super Bowl Sunday is a great time to gather with friends and family to watch the “Big Game.” It’s also a big day for party food and beer. Last week, we posted suggestions on where to pick up pizza, chicken, and beer. Many of the food places found in Downtown Alameda can also help you build festive party platters for game day with friends and family.
Dimitra’s Sandwiches To Go (1251 Park Street) – Dimitra’s has been serving its signature subs since 1976. The service is fast and friendly, and the food is fresh and flavorful. Ask them to slice the sandwiches into quarters. Alameda pick: The “Texarkana” (turkey, roast beef and avocado with all the fixings).
Subway Sandwiches (1407 Park Street) – Did you know that Subway offers sandwich platters that are made fresh and piled high with a variety of tasty subs that can serve 5-9 people? They also make 3-foot Giant Subs (serves 9-15) and 6-foot Giant Subs (serves 18-25). Alameda pick: The “Flavor Craver” Platter.
Sandwich Board (2412 Webb Ave) – Sandwich Board has been roasting fresh turkeys daily for over 30 years and they are particularly known for their fabulous turkey sandwiches. The sandwich shop is family-owned and operated so they are able to accommodate special requests not found on the menu. Ask them about putting together a platter of sliced turkey for game day.
Baron’s Charcuterie & Sausage (1650 Park Street) – Baron’s specializes in natural and organic sausages and cold cooked meats that include an array of pâtés, rilletes, salamis, hams, and terrines. You’ll find a terrific selection of these items, and much more, at their new deli counter inside the Marketplace. (Tip: Pick up some bread from Feel Good Bakery to go with your meat selection.)
Doggy-Style Hotdogs (1234 Park Street) – Treat your guests to a culinary twist by ordering a platter of specialty dogs from DS Hotdogs. It’s tough to choose just one flavor so order a combination of the “Dogzilla,” the “Kimchi Pyro,” and the “Fiesta.”
Pampered Pup (1401 Park Street) – Pampered Pup is an Alameda institution on Park Street. Their crowd-pleasing classic hot dogs are made with all beef dog, fresh chopped onions, relish, and tomato. Pick up enough hot dogs to fill a platter and let your friends know you got them at “The Pup.”
Farmstead Cheeses & Wines (1650 Park Street) – You’ll find over 125 different cheeses at Farmstead Cheeses & Wine. But don’t let that intimidate you — whether you are a seasoned cheese lover or new to the artisanal cheese world, the friendly cheesemongers at Farmstead can help you put together a delectable platter of imported and domestic cheeses for your next social function.
Alameda Natural Grocery (1650 Park Street) – Alameda Natural Grocery is committed to selling the finest in natural and organic foods. Their grocery aisles are filled with a tasty selection of crackers, chips, and dips. You’ll also find fresh, seasonal vegetables in the produce section for a colorful platter of veggie sticks.
Dan’s Fresh Produce (2300 Central Ave) – Dan’s has been independently owned and operated since 1976. The hometown market offers a wide variety of fruits and vegetables perfect for big game snacking. They also carry a terrific selection of baked goods, artisanal breads, gourmet sausages, and domestic cheeses.
