The galleries, clubs, restaurants, and coffee shops that make Downtown Alameda a vibrant destination welcome you to 2nd Friday Art Walk every month. Take in some of the most exciting, beautiful, and challenging contemporary art from the Bay Area and beyond.
It’s a totally free event with a little something for everyone. Artist receptions abound on 2nd Fridays along with live music, DJ’s, jewelry demonstrations, art classes, and wine tastings. It’s also a chance to get to know local artists and learn about their creative process.
Start your 2nd Friday Art Walk experience at any of the participating venues in Downtown Alameda. As you stroll from venue to venue, you’re invited to partake in wine and light refreshments at many of the galleries and shops.
Maps are available at Studio 23 (2309B Encinal Ave). Visit their website for current information: www.studio23gallery.com/2ndFriday
Featured events for Friday, March 11:
INSIDEOUT Closing Reception
Studio 23, 2309B Encinal Ave
Join local East Bay artists for this group art show featuring unique and thought-provoking interpretations of “INSIDEOUT.” Insides consist of a crazy mix of emotions, neuroses, fears, beauty, love,… and organs too. Come see what happens when artists bring the insides out — metaphysically, physically, and anyway the artist sees it. Studio 23 is open up to the public on Second Fridays from 7:30pm to 9:30pm. Light appetizers and wine served.
Art Party: Photographs by Marlene Winell
Julie’s Coffee & Tea Garden, 1223 Park Street
This exhibition of photographs on paper, canvas, and metal are about the Zen of “NOTICING” – really noticing the details of everyday life. These “found” images are unusual and sometimes beautiful, but not often considered so lovely. They are often missed because they are in contexts that are very ordinary. (Opening party, March 11, 7:00-9:00pm; Show runs March 11-May 4)
Art Show at Vintiq
Vintiq, 2305 Santa Clara Ave
Vintiq is hosting a very special art show this month. Artists on display are BELY, MUSK, MASKA, HAM, TUPAC, and NITE OWL. In addition, music will be provided by electronic music artist Mike Cadoo who will be making a rare live appearance as Dryft while also calling up tunes from former bands Gridlock and Bitcrush.
Open Studios at Autobody
Autobody Fine Art, 1517 Park Street
Autobody Fine Art provides studio space for emerging artists working in contemporary graphic design, fashion design, painting, and sculpture. The gallery and art studios are open 6:00-9:00pm during 2nd Friday Art Walks.
Food + Drinks + Open Studios
Redux Studios & Gallery, 2315 Lincoln Ave
This is another chance to view “Paper Cuts 2” — a colossal group collage exhibit. There will be food and drink, open studios, and more.
AP students at Alameda High School
Rhythmix Cultural Works, 2513 Blanding Ave
Although there won’t be a 2nd Friday reception in the K Gallery this month due to a classical music performance on the floor above, folks are still invited to view the current exhibit of works from AP students at Alameda High School before it is taken down on 3/17.
Painting Party, Jewelry, and Wine Tasting
Park Street Plaza, 1419 Park Street
Find your way to The Artistic Home Studio & Boutique and the other shops inside Park Street Plaza for an evening of art and fun. Watch as Denise Nelson from Artfully Yours helps students create beautiful pallet signs using custom stencils. Meet jewelry artists at Aphrodite’s Closet. Participate in a wine and chocolate tasting session at Bonne Vie — by the way, this month’s theme is “Celebrate France.”
Other galleries and art displays worth visiting during 2nd Friday Art Walks:
3 Dot Studios, 2309 Encinal Ave
The Alley, 2309 Encinal Ave
Starbaby Studio, 1309 Park Street
Blue Danube, 1333 Park Street
Tigers Blood Social Club, 2319 Santa Clara Ave
