Opened in Alameda on April 9, 2016, REDUX Cryotherapy is the first cryosauna in the East Bay.
One of the best centers in the NFL, Rodney Hudson of the Oakland Raiders, has added REDUX Cryotherapy to his training regimen for this upcoming season. In fact, multiple players from the Oakland Raiders are new clients at REDUX.
Although commonly used by high-performing professional athletes and celebrities, REDUX Cryotherapy also provides high-tech “Whole Body Cryotherapy” treatments to the public.
What Is Cryotherapy?
Cryotherapy literally means “cold therapy” in which you expose your body to subzero temperatures ranging from -166 to -210 degrees Fahrenheit.
This medical therapy popularly known as Whole Body Cryotherapy (WBC) was first developed in Japan in 1978 to treat Rheumatoid Arthritis. The idea then traveled into other countries within Asia and Europe where doctors discovered the many benefits that cryotherapy provides the human body. WBC has now made its way into the US and many are raving about this modern form of medical therapy.
WBC has been shown to help with insomnia, muscle aches, joint pain, cellulite reduction, skin conditions, and skin toning. Cryotherapy treatments activate endorphins that numb pain and reduce inflammation, providing much-needed relief. The activation of endorphins also increase metabolism, improve mood, and reduce stress.
Professional and recreational athletes began incorporating cryotherapy into their daily routines to enhance performance. In fact, many athletes now make this their ultimate healing and recovery method knowing it will help reduce muscle soreness, treat injuries, and accelerate workout recovery periods.
Celebrities are taking advantage of the benefits that cryotherapy has on the skin since subzero temperatures stimulate the production of collagen so that stretch marks, cellulite, and fine lines become less visible. As a result, skin looks tighter and healthier.
A Typical Cryotherapy Session
The process at REDUX Cryotherapy is simple: Upon arrival, you are guided into a private dressing room where you are provided with special gloves, socks, and shoes. Once geared up, you walk into the cryosauna where you experience a 3-minute session of pre-selected subzero temperature.
During the session, your body enters a “fight or flight” mechanism… As body temperature drops, blood from all four extremities travels to the core of your body to protect vital organs with warmth. While the blood pumps through your central organs it is cleansed from toxins and picks up oxygen, nutrients, and enzymes which are all vital for full body function. A trained and certified REDUX technician remains with you during the entire session.
Although it may sound very cold and intense, cryotherapy is a very tolerable experience since it’s a completely dry treatment. In fact, you won’t even feel the cold pain that is felt while in an ice bath. The body is a well-made machine, and when placed in conditions of extreme cold, it knows exactly what to do.
After stepping out of the chamber, the newly enriched blood travels back out to all four extremities and your muscles warm up immediately. Minutes later, you experience a massive endorphin rush stimulating your body to feel reenergized and ready to conquer the world!
