Join the Easter Bunny on an Easter Egg Hunt in Downtown Alameda

Grab a basket (and the kids) and come out to enjoy the search for prizes and treats in Downtown Alameda!

Downtown Alameda Easter Egg HuntShops and restaurants in the Historic Park Street Business District invite families to join in on a special Downtown Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 4, 2015 from 11:00am to 2:00pm. All ages are welcome… some businesses will even have special treats for parents.

The event is free, but bring your own basket.

Follow the Bunny Trail…

Start the egg-hunt by searching for colorful “Bunny Banners” posted in the windows of participating businesses. Find a Bunny in the window and that’s your clue there is a special treat waiting inside.

With more than 20 local businesses participating, kids will have an opportunity to gather a basketful of treats.

Meet the Easter Bunny on Park Street…

A visit with the Easter Bunny will make this family egg-hunt even more special. For a memorable holiday photo opportunity, plan to make a stop at Daisy’s (1347 Park Street) where the kids can meet the Easter Bunny in person.

“It’s always a pleasure to work with other merchants on events that bring families to Park Street. It’s especially fun to see the huge smiles as youngsters go door-to-door looking for treats,” says Barbara Mooney, this year’s event organizer.

To find the special treats, hop on down to Downtown Alameda on April 4 and look for Bunny Banners in the windows of these participating businesses:  Read the rest of this entry »

“Sunday Fund Day” This Week in Downtown Alameda

Sunday Fund Day Alameda for Angela's BistroAs reported in the media earlier this month, a fellow Park Street Business Association member lost his business in the arson fires just before it had a chance to get off the ground. Saboor Zafari, the owner of Angela’s Restaurant, has been a generous supporter of Alameda non-profit organizations as well as the community at large for many years. Now he needs our help!

Sunday Fund Day is a fundraiser to help re-establish Angela’s Restaurant and bring the community together. It takes place in Alameda’s historic downtown district on Sunday, October 26.

Saboor Zafari was close to opening the new Angela’s Restaurant when the business was destroyed by a devastating arsonist fire. “My partner and I went through a similar situation two years ago and I was astounded at the damage that a fire could do. I know from experience that the road to recovery is a long one. Because of the uncertainties that lie ahead for Angela’s, this event is intended to help Saboor and his family cover any immediate costs while the waiting game gets off to a start,” remarked event organizer Melanie Hartman of American Oak.

(Editors Note: American Oak was forced to temporarily close a couple of years ago as a result of an arson fire before the holiday season. With the help of supporters from the community, the restaurant was able to re-open after a year and many of the staff were able to return to their jobs.)

A number of restaurants and lounges found in Downtown Alameda’s Historic Park Street District will each be offering special menu items on Sunday, October 26, of which the proceeds will help Saboor replace all that was lost in the fire.

Please help get the word out and plan to attend Sunday Fund DayRead the rest of this entry »

Alameda 4th of July Parade 2014 – Find the Best View on Park Street

Alameda July 4 ParadeFourth of July in Alameda is a terrific day to head downtown with family and friends to enjoy a good old-fashioned parade. Celebrate America’s birthday and show off your red, white, and blue while viewing one of the largest and longest Independence Day parades in the nation.

The Mayor’s Alameda 4th of July Parade started in 1976 and has become one of the best July 4th celebrations in the San Francisco Bay Area. The parade now boasts over 190 “floats” and over 2,500 participants that travel along a 3.3 mile route across Alameda – starting on Park Street in the East End and progressing all the way to Webster Street on the West End.

The holiday parade is sure to be fun for all. The procession includes a multitude of antique cars, hand-decorated flatbeds (“floats”), dancing horses, marching bands, dance troupes, cheer squads, bicyclists, musicians, costumed characters, and clowns.

Where’s the best place to view the Alameda 4th of July Parade? Our answer every year is… Park Street, between Lincoln and San Jose.
